Willow Sunflowers - an introduction to willow weaving with Out of the Woods

@ Meanwood Valley Urban Farm


This half day workshop is perfect as an introduction to willow weaving.


We will be creating our sunflowers using the same techniques we use to make a base for a round basket before adding petals and a stem. Make as many as you like in the time available.

On this half day class, you’ll use random weave to create a decorative star.


An introduction to using random weaving to create decorative items. They look great decorated with fairy lights.

In the past we have covered origins, processing and coffee history. This year we’ll have a focus on roasting (as well as tasting lots of lovely single-origins).

Hannah and Hatty will be offering free drop in sessions, in their Meanwood shop Tandem, to show how to make beeswax wraps at home.


A quick and informative demo showing how easy it can be to make greener and more sustainable choices around your home. We will be selling plastic-free, make your own, beeswax wrap kits at the demo and throughout the festival.

Meanwood Road Project & Pop Up Portrait Studio @ Meanwood Community Centre

Come and meet Lizzie and Katy from the Meanwood Road Project.  Have your portrait taken, and to be part of a street exhibition this coming September alone Meanwood Road.


The Meanwood Road Project is putting on an exhibition along Meanwood Road over the weekend of September 24th 2022. People from the communities that populate the road are invited to be part of the exhibition through taking part in Pop Up Portrait studios, and also by taking photos, creating artwork, and telling stories.


Acting workshop.

Brush up your acting chops or try something you've not done before, this theatre workshop will encourage development of your performance skills.  This workshop is for ALL AGES over 18. 


If you would like to discover the performer inside you, or get back to doing something you haven't done in a while, or simply want to try something new, you will enjoy this workshop.


We will be doing creative things with characters and scripts, with a view to perhaps making this a regular creative performance group. Bridie is a Director and Lecturer in Theatre.

An illustrated talk by Meanwood resident Peter Spedding.  Hear and see the epic stories of Meanwood hero Captain Lawrence Oates' uncle and grandfather - how they inspired him and changed Meanwood Park.


Afterwards you can join Peter in visiting many of the Meanwood Park features created by the Oates' family.

These and other topics that people may care to bring, will be explored in a talk with plenty of time for conversation.


Robert Chamberlain was for many years the director of Tintagel House and the Merlin Theatre, a Rudolf Steiner community arts and education centre in Sheffield.


Community Litter Pick 


To mark Meanwood Festival weekend, Litter Free Meanwood is organising a community litter pick.


If you would like to do a pick we can either:


1) meet at the corner of Potternewton Lane (What 3 words location = chief.tend.update) by the new development at 1 and spread out from there, aiming to end at Wildcraft Bakery at 2:30.


2) Pick any area you like without meeting up and aiming for Wildcraft at 2:30.


3) Pick any area you chose and don’t meet at Wildcraft!


Please bring a picker if you can and wear gloves.  It would be lovey to see as many of you as possible out and about.

A history of Meanwood village - a talk and walk with Peter Smithson on behalf of Meanwood Village Association.

A history of Meanwood Institute and Meanwood village from the 19th century to present.

Introduction to Somatics (seated)  @ Meanwood Institute,  


A taster of Somatics, a slow and gentle movement method to release tight muscle habits.  Suitable for adults of all ages.


Come and try out Somatics - a body movement method with a difference - to improve your posture, banish discomfort and pain (where the root is chronically tight muscles), and bring greater ease into your body and your life even when you're feeling fine.


The movements are slow and gentle - though they are surprisingly powerful!


Wear comfortable clothes you can move easily in, and a layer for warmth as you won't be moving enough to generate much body heat.


For this session you will be sitting on a chair (with some time standing if you're able to) so no need to worry about getting down on the floor.

Foraged and found wreath workshop.

Join Hannah and Hattie from Tandem, for a summer's evening wreath workshop, in the relaxed setting of our local Alfred bar.


Learn how to construct your own hoop and build your own wreath using locally foraged foliage and sustainably soured natural dried flowers. Finish it off with your homemade, natural dyed French vintage linen ribbons.


All materials will be provided and each ticket will include a shopping voucher for Tandem and a complimentary welcome drink.


Two Sacred Landscapes in Derbyshire - an illustrated talk with images and live music.

An illustrated talk by Robert Chamberlain on sensing the spirit of place, with live harp music by John Dalton.


A contemplative journey through space and time from the Bronze Age till today. Rowtor Rocks, Birchover with its rock carvings and sounding cave, and Harthill Moor with its stone circle, Hermit's Cave and Robin Hood's Stride. 


If there is enough interest, a guided walk could be arranged later in the month.
